Good morning from Hollywood my Daily Love! I'm flying today from L.A. to NYC to speak at Marie Forleo's RHH Live this weekend!
I can't help but be moved by something I heard Oprah say last weekend. Marie and I both attended Oprah's event O You! It's the event Oprah Magazine puts on every year! It happened to be in L.A. this year and so I went with Chris Assaad, Jenna, our friend Elisa and Marie and her crew.
It was a blast!
Oprah closed the night. She was fantastic. No - she was transcendent. No - she is Divinely inspired.
I got goosebumps hearing Oprah talk about one of my favorite people on stage - Joseph Campbell.
I write about Joe all the time. If you don't know about him, make sure to check out "The Power of Myth" - I watch it every year. This man has been one of the most formative forces in my life.
Oprah went on to quote Joe, saying, "The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are!"
Oprah went on to share a story about seeing Diana Ross on TV for the first time and how she wanted to be Diana Ross. Eventually Oprah realized she couldn't sing like her and gave up trying. And then she realized that she could never be Diana Ross, but she could be the best version of OPRAH!
And the rest is history.
Could you imagine how different Oprah's life would be - and ours, if she had just tried to be Diana Ross instead of Oprah?
Who knows what would have happened. Oprah embraced herself and is truly a living example of Joe's quote.
And what's cool is that you and I are made of the same life force energy that Joe and Oprah are made of. There is no separation energetically. Our job is to get about giving our gift. To embrace who WE are uniquely in this form and to OWN it. Of course we can look to others for inspiration, but never making THEM better than US. We are all equal. We all have dormant potential and it's up to each of us to realize it.
It reminds me of one of my favorite Bible quotes, "Even the least among you can do all that I have done, and greater things." Jesus said that.
The aim is to not put anyone on a pedestal AND at the same time be inspired by them. Because YOU matter and being who YOU are is a privilege. And when you CLAIM it - the world will agree with you.
As always, the action happens over on the BLOG. Head on over there and leave a comment on my blog "Change happens SLOWLY, not all at onles ce!" and join in the conversation! The TDL Community thrives in the comments and it's a GREAT place to get support!
Love,
